The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has denied allegations by the Taileng (Red Shan) Nationalities Development Party (TNDP) that dozens of ethnic Red Shan villagers were abducted by KIA troops in northern Burma’s Kachin state.

As the men have little money to pay hospital fees, donations have been raised among the local Kachin community.

One civilian was killed on Tuesday and hundreds more were displaced in northern Shan State’s Kyaukme district as fighting broke out between the Shan State Army-South, a nationwide ceasefire agreement signatory group, and the non-signatory Ta’ang National Liberation Army.

The incident occurred in an area where rival ethnic armed groups engaged in major clashes earlier this year.
