Authorities in Burma will investigate a video that appears to show members of the armed forces beating, kicking and violently interrogating several people, the government said on Wednesday.

Human rights advocates called on Burma to investigate the actions of some of its soldiers on Saturday after footage of people being treated violently by uniformed men went viral.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will meet with seven allied ethnic armed groups that are not signatory to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) on the sidelines of the ongoing 21st Century Panglong Conference in the capital on Friday, a government official has confirmed.

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi opened a second round of peace talks under her government here in the capital on Wednesday, predicting that the coming days would bring “intense discussions, exchanges of views, debates and difficult decisions.”

“As far as I know, the government is not going to allow them to be represented as an alliance or coalition. It believes no progress can be made if it does so."

The seven militias say they have formed a committee to negotiate with the government, but will not discuss the NCA.
