The war of words continues between Burma's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Presidential spokesman Ye Htut. In an exclusive interview with DVB, Ye Htut maintains that the president is unable to fast-track Suu Kyi's proposal to hold talks on constitutional reform.

Burmese presidential spokesman Ye Htut said an NLD proposal to discuss constitutional reform between the president, the military, the parliament and itself as Burma’s main opposition party should wait until the Joint-Committee for Reviewing the Constitution releases its report.

The National League for Democracy has been refused permission by police in Naypyidaw to conduct a survey to measure public perception of constitutional reform, the Burmese opposition party said.

The NLD says more than 99 percent of 20,000 Rangoon voters who participated in the party's recent opinion poll on constitutional reform said they are in favour of amending the constitution as opposed to rewriting it from scratch.
