Burma’s President to attend late Thai king’s funeral

President Htin Kyaw and his wife Su Su Lwin will attend the funeral of Thailand’s late King Bhumibol on behalf of the Burmese nation, according to the Ministry of Information.

The royal cremation ceremony will take place in Bangkok on Thursday and will be attended by royalty and national leaders from around the world.

Some 250,000 local Thai people are expected to turn up for a chance to pay their last respects to a monarch who was adored nationwide and is remembered as a unifying figure, often described as “Father of the Nation” in Thailand.
