Northwest Rangoon braces for 30-hour power cut

Thousands of residents in the northwestern suburbs of Rangoon have been notified that all electricity from the national grid will be suspended for 30 hours starting on Saturday afternoon.

“The power supply from Hlaing Tharyar substation will be cut off for 30 hours, starting from 12 noon on 17 June and lasting until 6pm on 18 June. This is due to the necessity of connecting the Hlaing Tharyar and Bayintnaung grids,” said the Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation.

“The areas that will be affected by the power cut are mainly those in Hlaing Tharyar Township … four wards in Kamaryut … and 16 wards in Hlaing Township.

“This operation is necessary in order for residents to attain better access to electricity. Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation requests your understanding and pardon as the power cut in the above-mentioned areas and townships may trigger social problems.”
