Four civilians were killed and at least 12 others were injured in airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force on Thabeikkyin, Singu and Mogok townships on Sunday, residents and People’s Defense Force (PDF) members in Mandalay Region told DVB.
“We have to be very alert about the danger of aircrafts pose while flying over our heads,” a Singu resident told DVB on the condition of anonymity. He added that residents flee their homes every time a Myanmar Air Force jet flies over Singu.
The PDF told DVB that four civilians were killed and two others were injured in airstrikes on Thabeikkyin’s Kyaukpyar village and Singu’s Nagamauk mountain on Sunday. Thabeikkyin, Singu and Mogok are located 60-124 miles (98-200 km) north of the region’s capital Mandalay.
Thabeikkyin was recaptured by the military from the PDF on July 23. It was seized by the PDF, the armed wing of the National Unity Government (NUG), on Aug. 2, 2024. The gold mining hub of Singu was seized by the PDF in July 2024. It is one of the 63 townships placed under martial law by the regime on July 31.
“Airstrikes have been carried out continuously on resistance-controlled areas in Singu and eastern Madaya townships since the military retook Thabeikkyin,” a PDF member told DVB on the condition of anonymity.
Residents of Mogok Township told DVB that there were no reported casualties during airstrikes on Bayathonesu village on Sunday. The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) seized control of Mogok on July 24, 2024.
Regime forces launched a counteroffensive against the TNLA and its allied PDF in Mogok on July 13. Fighting over control of the ruby mining hub is ongoing.
Regime forces have intensified their attacks against resistance forces this month in Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway regions ahead of regime elections scheduled to begin on Dec. 28.
