Three regime troops and one People’s Defense Force member killed during fighting in Sagaing Region

The People’s Defense Force (PDF) told DVB that one of its members was killed in fighting with regime forces, and claimed that three regime troops were killed and seven others were detained, in Wuntho Township of Sagaing Region on Sunday.

A PDF spokesperson told DVB that it fought a regime column with 80 troops. He added that its medics are treating the wounded and will interrogate them after they receive medical attention for their injuries.

Wuntho is located 181 miles (291 km) north of the Sagaing Region capital Monywa.

Regime media reported that the military regained control of the Yadana Sinkha bridge linking Mandalay Region’s Singu Township with Sagaing Region’s Kyaukmyaung Township on Dec. 22.

This follows the military retaking control of Singu town, located 58 miles (93 km) north of Mandalay, from the PDF on Dec. 18. Regime forces will reportedly repair the bridge, which was allegedly mined by the PDF on Oct. 29.

Kyaukmyaung Township is located 16-25 miles (25-40 km) east and northeast of Sagaing’s Shwebo and Wetlet townships, which are under PDF control.

Residents of Yinmabin Township told DVB that regime troops set fire to 229 homes from Dec. 16-19. Yinmabin is located 29 miles (46 km) west of Monywa.

A PDF spokesperson in Yinmabin told DVB that two of its members were killed in fighting with regime forces on Dec. 17. It claimed to have killed at least 10 regime troops.

Aid workers in Yinmabin told DVB that an undisclosed number of residents displaced from their homes due to fighting are in urgent need of food, medicine and blankets.

Wuntho, Yinmabin, Kawlin, Kanni and Indaw townships in Sagaing are either partially or fully under National Unity Government (NUG) control.
