The book launch for Burma Women’s Voices from the Revolution was held on March 15 at the Loft Café in Chiang Mai, Thailand. ALTSEAN Burma released the collection from first-time writers from Myanmar as a testimony to women’s resistance to military rule since the 2021 coup.
“The story I wrote in this book reflects the experiences I’ve gone through in my life,” said Cobra, an LGBTQ+ writer from Myanmar now in Thailand. “From 1988 to 2021, I lived through two [military] coups. This story captures the struggles I faced during those times and how I overcame them. It’s based on my existence, resilience, and determination never to give up.”
Available in both English and Burmese languages, Burma Women’s Voices from the Revolution contains 341 pages featuring 40 women writers involved in the resistance to the 2021 coup. “Through publishing these stories, we can open our hearts to the world, rather than keeping everything to ourselves,” added Cobra.
