Laura Bush meets UN envoy on Burma

Dec 18, 2007 (AFP), The UN envoy for Burma, Ibrahim Gambari, met at the White House Monday with US First Lady Laura Bush and US National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley, US officials said.

Gambari and Laura Bush posed for photographs and then met for about 30 minutes, said her spokeswoman, Sally McDonough, who declined to provide details of their discussions.

The envoy also met with Hadley, said US National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe, who also declined to elaborate.

Laura Bush has taking a leading role in US criticisms of Burma ever since the country’s military rulers launched a crackdown in September on pro-democracy demonstrators.
