A community-led fundraising concert was held at The Goodcery Space in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on April 6. It featured local acts like hip hop group Triple Edge, River Catchers, Do One Thing, as well as chefs and vendors like Bamama and North Gate Jazz Co-op.
“We wanted to do something to support the people over there in Burma and to do what we can as a community here. You know, since we’re all from everywhere in Chiang Mai, we wanted to do what we can for people over there,” said Kan Kyi, a community organizer and the lead vocalist for Triple Edge.
The event raised over 960,000 THB ($27,565 USD) to support the Burma Study Centre (BSC), and Burma Student Association at Chiang Mai University (BSA-CMU), as well as for earthquake relief efforts in the hardest-hit regions like Sagaing, Mandalay, and southern Shan State’s Inle Lake.
