  • As of 8 PM, 21 Jan, a total of 19,147 samples were tested and found more 445 new cases and 16 deaths. MoHS has reported 136,166 of the total confirmed cases including 119,973 discharged, and 3,013 deaths.
  • Myanmar has recorded the 58th highest death toll in more than 200 countries with 3,013  deaths, according to the Worldometers.
  • Myanmar will receive 1.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines today(22Jan) and these will be administered to 750,000 people, said State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
  • More than 130 workers from the Hanmin garment factory in Shwelinban industrial zone, Hlaingtharyar township, protested in front of the factory after nine workers were fired for filing a complaint with the township labour department regarding the lack of legal rights, according to the chairwoman of the Federation of General Workers Myanmar.
  • It is reported that Italian Agency for Development Cooperation donated 1 million EUR to Yangon region Covid-19 response services at the Aung Myint Mo Covid-19 treatment center in South Dagon township.
  • New Hope Family Residence in Ayetharyar ward, Myitkyina, Kachin state, home for children whose families died because of AIDS, is in need of food and aid during the Covid-19 period, said U Al Zaw Mai from New Hope Family Residence. 
  • The chiefs ministers of regions and states will most possibly become from the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) under the upcoming new government, said NLD spokesperson Dr. Zaw Myint Maung.

  • During the National League for Democracy (NLD) administration,  from Jan 1, 2016  to Jan 12, 2021, it was earned more than $ 1,400,000 through the permanent residency system, said Vice-president U Henry Van Thio at a coordination meeting of the Management Committee on the permanent residency system for foreigners on Jan 20.
  • More than 150 factory workers from Myanmar, trapped in the Wa Self-Administered Division, were repatriated by the government plan, said Kyine Tone (Kengtung) district administrator.
  • 34 undocumented immigrants from Rakhine state were arrested in Ayeyarwaddy region on Jan 19, according to the regional police force.
  • The government is planning to provide for those who did not have access to the 4th Covid-relief funding program and who needed support due to Covid crisis, as of the General Administration Department, Ministry of Union Government Office.
  • It is reported that parks in Yangon reopen from 5 am to 9:30 am, starting today (Jan 21).

  • As of 8 PM, 19 Jan, a total of 20,694 samples were tested and found more 448 new cases and 13 deaths. MoHS has reported 135,243 of total confirmed cases including 118,657 discharged, and 2,986 deaths.
  • It was reported that The EU will extend to support 5 million EUR by 2021 for the unemployed workers during the crisis of Covid-19, according to Daw Su Mon The, an official of the SMART Myanmar project  by the EU. 
  • More than 159,000  criminal cases and 17,000 Civil Cases were reported in Magway Region in five years, according to a special session of the Magway Region parliament (Hluttaw) on January 18.
  • In Ayeyarwady Region, 106 undocumented immigrants from Rakhine State were arrested in 2020, according to the Divisional Police Commander’s Office.
  • The Ministry of Education has announced that drones distributed by the Myanmar President Office to the relevant ministries will be provided to 94 university degree colleges, including the Myanmar Aerospace University.
  • In the second term of the Mandalay Division Hluttaw, about 2,000 questions were asked, and one elected MP did not ask any questions during his five-year term, according to a report of parliament(Hluttaw) study published by the Kanaung Institute.
  • It was reported that about hundreds of BYMA construction workers demonstrated in Pabedan Township, Yangon, yesterday(19 January), for  unpaid wages and lack of social security allowances. 
  • 37 townships have been reported thousands of Covid-19 cases, including 29 townships in Yangon region, 5 townships in Mandalay region, each township in Bago, Rakhine, and Mon region respectively, Mingalardon township has the highest number of Covid-19 cases with 6,034 and North Okkalapa township ranks 2nd with 5,840, according to the Ministry of Health and Sport.
  • Mon state is ready to abolish the 7-days quarantine system for returnees from other states and regions if people follow the Covid-19 health guidelines, according to the Mon State Public Health Department.
  • Refugees in Rakhine State called on the authorities to conduct a field inspection to find out the exact number of damages in their villages due to clashes between Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army (AA) in Rakhine State.
  • In 2020, Rakhine was the most affected state by landmines and there were 61 landmines and UXO (unexploded ordnance) explosions, 45 killed, 89 people were injured and the number of children victims has risen from 17 in 2019 to 64 in 2020, said Dr. Win Myat Aye, the minister for social welfare, relief, and resettlement.
  • U Phone Myint Kyaw, a vice-chairman of the Yadanabon Students’ Union, charged with participating in a sticker campaign for a ceasefire and peace in Mandalay, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Amarapura Court under section 505(a/b) of the penal code on Jan 18.

  • As of 8 PM, 18 Jan, a total of 18,835 samples were tested and found 477 new cases and 18 deaths. MoHS has reported 134,795 confirmed cases including 118,200 discharged, and 2,973 deaths.
  •  In testing 63 laboratory samples for analysis of SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome, there was not found a highly contagious mutation reported in some foreign countries, said  Dr. Myat Htut Nyunt, the Deputy Director General of the Department of Medical Research Myanmar.
  • There were 43 actions taken against illegal operation of KTVs during the Covid-19 period, with Yangon Region being the largest number of cases, according to U Kyaw Thiha, a spokesman for the Myanmar Police Force.
  • Returnees from Jordan have been infected with a new mutated coronavirus strain that is different from the fast-spreading and dangerous strain in the UK and South Africa, as of MoHS.
  • China continues the construction of the fence near the border post between two countries in Loije, Kachin state, even though the Myanmar officials sent an objection letter to Chinese authorities, according to officials. 
  •  In Thailand, 12 Myanmar nationals have been arrested while gambling for violating crowd gatherings during Covid-19 outbreak on Jan 17, as of Bangkok Post.

  • People should be aware of the new mutated coronavirus in Myanmar and there is a possibility to be found, according to the Ministry of Health and Sport. 
  • Nighttime curfews issued by townships have been extended for another two months (until Mar 15), according to the relevant township administrators.
  • People in ShweBo, Sagaing region, donated more than 1,800 lakh kyats for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines on Jan 16, said township administrator.
  • On January 16, Khin Ko Latt, the leader of a pro-military rally and election justice in Meikhtila, Mandalay Division, was charged under the Disaster Management Law, according to the Meikhtila Police Station.
  • The government has announced that it has received more than more than 10,000 million kyats and more than 2 million US dollars in donations to purchase the Covid-vaccine, according to the Fund Management Sub-Committee on Vaccine Procurement.

  • People in Pyapon district donated more than 1600 lakh kyats to the government for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines on the morning of Jan 14 at the Pyapon district general administration office.
  • EARTHDAY.ORG, a global organizer of Earth Day and an international environmental NGO announced Ah Moon, a Kachin female singer, as Earth Day Ambassador in Myanmar, according to the statement of EARTHDAY.ORG.
  • U Khin Maung Myint, an NLD MP from Hpakant township, has been charged under section 500 for defamation of military chiefs, said Lawyer U Than Tun.
