NLD members released from detention

Jun 11, 2008 (DVB), Fifteen National League for Democracy members who were arrested two weeks ago in Rangoon for staging a protest have been released, the NLD said yesterday.

The group was arrested on 27 May as they marched towards detained NLD leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's house, calling for her release.

NLD information officer U Nyan Win said the 15 were released on Monday.

"The members were released from detention in Government Technology College compound in Insein at around 9pm yesterday evening," Nyan Win said on Tuesday.

"They were escorted back to their homes by their local administration officials," he said.

"Ko Aung Pe from Ton Tay township was only taken home this morning as his township Peace and Development Council officials were late picking him up."
