International Women’s Day celebrated in Chiang Mai

International Women’s Day under the theme “Give to Gain” was held at Chiang Mai University (CMU) in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on March 8.

“We all come together to organize this annually,” Kham Mai, the communications officer at Shan Women’s Action Network (SWAN), told DVB.

Activity booths were hosted by civil society organizations and public talks featured human rights activists and community leaders discussing challenges faced by women and minority groups from Myanmar.

“Events like these mark a deeply significant and commemorative day for women. It is a day that not only women, but all of us, should celebrate with pride. In our country, women’s rights are often overlooked,” Wai Wai, the joint general secretary at the Burmese Women’s Union (BWU), told DVB.

International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8 to recognize the achievements of women and to advance gender equality.
