Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) and MAP Foundation are collaborating to enhance access to reliable news, information, educational opportunities, and community engagement for Myanmar migrant communities in Thailand.
This partnership merges DVB’s daily news production and digital media distribution skills with MAP’s grassroots community networks and FM radio in Thailand on 97.5 MHz in Chiang Mai and 102.5 MHz in Mae Sot, along the Thai-Myanmar border.
They will support migrant communities through several key initiatives:
Podcast to Broadcast: DVB will produce short, five-minute podcasts featuring news updates in Burmese language, which MAP Radio will broadcast on weekdays.
Content Co-Production: The organizations will work together to create collaborative content, including shows like “Youth Voice,” “Women Voice,” “SMART ED” (an education-focused talk show), and specific migrant information segments. To achieve this, MAP will connect DVB with subject experts, field insights, and community perspectives, while DVB handles the production, editing, and distribution.
Community Engagement: They plan to jointly organize public discussions and awareness activities. DVB may also support documentary screenings at events organized by MAP Foundation and participate in discussions following the screenings.
Capacity Building: DVB will help train MAP’s media team and selected community members in valuable skills such as basic media production, storytelling, mobile journalism (MoJo), content editing, digital distribution, and media literacy.
Safeguarding Migrants: Both parties have committed to strict ethical guidelines designed to protect the safety, dignity, and privacy of migrant communities. They will secure informed consent from all participants and actively ensure that their content does not expose vulnerable individuals—such as undocumented migrants—to social, legal, or security risks
“Re-sharing certain news stories on MAP Radio that we cannot produce ourselves benefits our migrant community,” said Sai Kwan, MAP Foundation’s multimedia coordinator.
“We hope this collaboration will help us deliver timely updates and news on migrant worker issues, as well as ongoing situations domestically, internationally, and along the Thai-Myanmar border.”
