Feb 24, 2009 (DVB), Former death-row prisoner Myint Htway, who was accused of planning to bomb the government radio station in 1991, was among the list of 6316 prisoners granted amnesty by the Burmese junta recently.

Myint Htway was charged with national treason and given the death sentence along with a colleague named Thiha after being accused of planning the attack against the state-run Myanmar Broadcasting Service radio station in Rangoon.

Authorities later reduced their sentences to life-term imprisonment.

National League for Democracy spokesperson Nyan Win told DVB that Myint Htway was released from Thayet prison at the weekend after spending 18 years in jail.

His colleague Thiha had been released from Shan state's Mai Sap prison in an amnesty last September when government granted freedom to 9002 prisoners across Burma.
