The Review Committee for the Release of Remaining Political Prisoners met with government officials last month to discuss the framework for defining what constitutes a political prisoner.
The committee’s mandate proposes to stop arbitrary detention and torture and advocates for the release of all remaining political prisoners in Burma – of which hundreds are still behind bars in Burma.
Bo Kyi, joint sectary of Association Assistance for Political Prisoners (Burma), spoke to DVB about the committee’s progress.
The commission’s next meeting will be in mid-March, where they will discuss the mandate in more detail. Bo Kyi says they will work on defining political prisoners and discuss who should be released.
