The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) stated that it signed a China-brokered ceasefire agreement with the regime in Naypyidaw effective Wednesday after a two-day meeting in Kunming, China, on Oct. 27-28.
It added that TNLA troops will withdraw from Mogok Township in Mandalay Region and Momeik Township in northern Shan State and the regime will stop its counteroffensive to retake the two towns. The dates of TNLA troop withdrawal weren’t disclosed.
Mogok is located 128 miles (206 km) north of Mandalay and Momeik is located 170 miles (273 km) west of the regional capital Lashio. Both towns were seized by the TNLA in July 2024.
DVB contacted Lway Yay Oo, the TNLA spokesperson, for comment but received no response.
Sources told DVB that the TNLA and the regime have met nine times for China-brokered talks since the end of Operation 1027, which was launched on Oct. 27, 2023 by the TNLA, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and the Arakan Army (AA)—known collectively as the Brotherhood Alliance.
The regime recaptured Hsipaw Township from the TNLA on Oct. 17, as well Kyaukme Township on Oct. 1, and Nawnghkio Township on July 16.
The TNLA controls Namtu, Kutkai, Namhsan, Monglon, Manton, Mongngawt, Momeik and Namhkam townships in northern Shan, and Mogok in neighbouring Mandalay.
Forty-nine civilians have been killed by airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force in territory under TNLA control since Oct. 1, according to the ethnic armed group.
