Thailand’s northern city of Chiang Mai welcomed the New Year on Dec. 31. From Tha Phae Gate in the Old City to the glitzy Nimman Road, Chiang Mai blended its Lanna cultural heritage with a high-energy countdown to ring in the new year.
The Mayor of Chiang Mai Assanee Buranupakorn led the opening of the Nawarat Bridge New Year Illumination 2025 held in memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother of Thailand.
The official New Year 2026 celebration in Chiang Mai took place on the Nawarat Bridge, where crowds of Thais and foreigners gathered to watch live music and fireworks up until midnight and the turn of the new year.
