A delegation of members of parliament from New Zealand met with officials from the Chin National Front (CNF) at an undisclosed location in Thailand to discuss humanitarian aid for those displaced by conflict in Chinland on Sept. 28, according to the CNF Foreign Relations Department.
“What we emphasized in our discussion is that implementing [humanitarian aid] should be the priority. We also made it clear to the New Zealand delegation that we will not recognize the results of the [regime scheduled] election and we urged the international community not to accept it either,” said Salai Van, the CNF spokesperson, told Khonumthung News.
The CNF requested New Zealand support efforts in Chinland to establish a federal democratic system, which aims to be built from the bottom-up.
“Compared to other states and regions, Chin State has received very little humanitarian assistance, and about half of its population has been displaced. We therefore call on the international community to provide effective humanitarian support to the Chin people. We also urge the international community not to recognize the upcoming election,” Salai Van told Khonumthung News.
The New Zealand parliamentary delegation is also meeting held with representatives from the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), the Kachin Political Interim Coordination Team (KPICT), the Pa-O National Federal Council (PNFC), as well as civil society organizations and other unnamed resistance forces.
