The annual Chinese Lunar New Year Festival began on Feb. 17 at the Warorot Market (Kad Luang) in Chiang Mai, Thailand and ends on Feb. 18.
Chinese, Thais and foreign tourists gathered in Chinatown to watch a dragon dance performance, to set off fireworks, and take photos under the red lanterns.
The Chinese New Year is associated with 12 animals from mythology with one being assigned each year along with one of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. This Chinese New Year is named “Year of the Fire Horse.”
