The Burmese army on Thursday began airlifting civil servants from northern Arakan State’s Taungpyo Township following this week’s violence between armed mobs and security forces which has taken at least two dozen lives.
DVB’s local correspondent reported that more than 170 civil servants, mostly school teachers, gathered at a local high school, where they were airlifted on military helicopters to Buthidaung.

“As far as we know, all civil servants in Taungpyo were being evacuated to Buthidaung, and from there they will be transported to Sittwe on buses tomorrow [Friday],” said our local reporter.
