Daw Suu accepts food deliveries

Sep 16, 2008 (DVB), National League for Democracy spokesperson U Nyan Win said Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has begun receiving food deliveries again after refusing to accept supplies for the past four weeks.

One basket of groceries was given to her yesterday evening and she received another basket this morning.

In a statement, the NLD said that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's refusal to accept her daily delivery of groceries had not been a hunger strike.

But the party said that surviving on the meagre amounts of food in her house had left the NLD leader weak.

"Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been making sure Daw Khin Khin Win, who has been looking after her and who is in poor health, eats well, and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi herself has been using food and drink frugally," the statement said.

Nyan Win also said that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi had been able to meet her lawyer, U Kyi Win, to discuss her appeal against her house arrest.

U Kyi Win is currently collecting documents and files relating and finalizing the details of the appeal.
