Detained blogger receives family visit

Feb 20, 2008 (DVB), Family members of detained blogger Nay Phone Latt, who is currently being held in Insein prison, were allowed to visit him for the first time on Monday.

Nay Phone Latt has been charged under section 32(b) of the Video Act, which carries a maximum penalty of six months' imprisonment.

His family was allowed to visit him on 18 February in Insein prison, where he is being held in ward 8, cell 1 of the main prison.

A source close to the family said that Nay Phone Latt seemed to be in reasonable health.

"He looked a bit thinner, understandably because he is in prison, but seemed otherwise fine," the source said.

Nay Phone Latt's case has attracted the attention of international rights organisations, and numerous messages of support have appeared on his blog since his arrest.
