Police have found an unidentified woman’s DNA on the clothing of a Burmese suspect linked to a killing spree in the central Thai province of Pathum Thani last week, but can’t say if it belongs to a female body discovered under a flyover in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao District on Sunday.

City police chief Sanit Mahathavorn yesterday said forensic police who examined the blood stains found they matched the DNA of two homeless people found murdered in Pathum Thani earlier this month.

They also found another woman’s DNA on the suspect’s clothing but don’t yet know who it belongs to.

Earlier, Phahon Yothin police said there were some similarities between the latest murder and the suspected serial killings in Pathum Thani.

The intersection is not far from the Mor Chit bus terminal on Kamphaeng Phet Road where a Burmese national identified as Jimmy was arrested by police after travelling from Pathum Thani.

However, the 20-year-old suspect has denied involvement, Sanit said.

Police suspect the fourth victim was also homeless like the other three as she had lived under the bridge for about one month.

It is possible she might have fallen prey to Jimmy because of the similarities with the other murders and the timing in which the incidents occurred, he said. However, officers have not reached a conclusion, pending the results of more DNA tests.

The woman, dead for three to five days, was probably hit with a hard object and stabbed several times. Her right hand was tied with a nylon strip.

The other three victims died a similar way. Their wrists were bound with electrical wire and suffered deep cuts on their bodies.

Sanit said the blood stains found on Jimmy’s clothing carried the DNA samples of the victims Suporn Kokkran, 25, and Sathien Sornchai, 40, found on 4 October and 6 October respectively near Thanyarak Hospital in Pathum Thani’s Thayaburi District.

A third murder victim found in the province was also a homeless woman, identified as 38-year-old Supaporn Kongyudee.

Investigators are looking into whether the DNA matches that of Supaporn or the unidentified woman found dead under a ramp at the Lat Phrao intersection, he added.

Deputy police spokesman Piyapan Pingmuang said it is too soon to conclude if the case is a serial killing because the first victim, Suporn, is thought to have been killed after a bout of drinking led to a brawl. Police are working with City Hall and welfare workers on measures to protect the homeless such as by putting in more lights where they sleep, he said.
