Airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force targeted Inlaegyi village in Sagaing Region’s Kanbalu Township on Monday, killing at least four civilians—including two young children—and injuring nine others. The strike hit territory been under the administrative control of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) since 2022.
Kanbalu residents reported that three separate bombs hit the village, destroying a home and a civilian vehicle. A mother and her two-year-old son were killed instantly when one of the explosives struck their residence, while a second strike killed a woman and a four-year-old boy.
Resistance fighters aligned with the National Unity Government (NUG) confirmed that military reconnaissance drones had been spotted hovering over the area two days prior to the air raid. Access to the immediate blast site remains restricted due to the presence of an unexploded ordnance.
The airstrike on Inlaegyi is part of an escalating campaign of aerial attacks targeting civilian infrastructure across Sagaing’s Kanbalu and Kawlin townships since Sept. 15.
The bombardment, coupled with reports of an advancing regime column following the Sept. 24 capture of a pro-regime militia checkpoint in nearby Zeekone village by resistance forces, has triggered mass displacement.
Hundreds of residents from Kanbalu’s Inlaegyi and surrounding villages—including Nyaungpaungyin, Nyaninn, Ywarthit, and Ywarma—have fled their homes.
The regime has carried out 4,090 aerial attacks nationwide since March 2025—encompassing fighter jet strikes, drone operations, paramotors, and gyrocopters—resulting in at least 2,790 fatalities and 5,539 injuries.
Sagaing Region remains the hardest-hit nationwide, accounting for 914 aerial strikes that have killed over 864 people and wounded 1,904 others.
