Gold shop held up in border town

Three armed men robbed a gold shop in the border town of Myawaddy on Sunday.

Witnesses said three unidentified armed men arrived at Emperor gold shop in the town’s market yesterday afternoon in a car while heavy rains inundated the area.

“They got out from the car and fired some shots. A girl’s arm was injured from the broken glass,” said one unnamed witness.

“There was a similar incident back in 2009 and the culprit wasn’t found.”

The unnamed witness said the robbers made off with gold and Burmese and Thai currency.

The Myawaddy police station was unavailable for comment.
