Kyaw Moe Tun, Burma’s Permanent Representative to the U.N., received the Citizen of Burma Award at a ceremony in California on May 21. The U.S.-based organization called the Citizen of Burma Award commended Kyaw Moe Tun for representing Burma’s elected government at the international level. “My name is on this award. But this award goes to the people of Burma who sacrifice their lives in various ways, especially people in the Civil Disobedience Movement, people in the liberated areas, and those who fight for the failure of the dictatorship and restoration of democracy,” said Kyaw Moe Tun. The cash award of $10,000 USD was donated to the National Unity Government (NUG) to support striking CDM civil servants. This award has been given annually since 2010 in honour of individuals or organizations that work for the benefit of Burma in the U.S.
