Myanmar labour agent found dead at home in Thailand
A 43-year-old woman from Burma named Tin Nwe Mar Win was reported dead inside her home in Pathum Thani Province, located 26 miles (42 km) north of the Thai capital Bangkok, on Saturday. Her body was discovered with severe head injuries by her 16-year-old son. Thai police recovered a bloody hammer and a knife at the scene of the crime, Thai media reported.
Tin Nwe Mar Win’s son told police that one of his mother’s clients was staying at their home for 2-3 weeks while she helped him find employment in Thailand. She worked as a labour agent for migrant workers from Burma. Tin Nwe Mar Win’s son added that the man disappeared the night he found his mother’s body, according to police who are now investigating it as a homicide.
Thailand remains a major destination for migrants from Burma, with numbers increasing since the 2021 military coup and the 2024 enforcement of the conscription law. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stated that 2,308,166 Burma nationals were registered as migrant workers in Thailand in March 2024, but the number of undocumented is estimated to be more than double the official figure.
UN Ambassador criticizes Security Council for inaction
Burma’s Permanent Representative to the U.N. Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun criticized the Security Council’s annual 2025 report, by stating that it reflected an inability to fulfill the mandate to protect civilians in Burma from escalating attacks carried out by its own military, during a plenary meeting at the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Friday.
“The section on Myanmar in the report is an unfortunate encapsulation of limitations and failures by the Council to fulfill its mandate,” he said. The U.N. Security Council held two closed-door meetings on Burma in 2025 to discuss the situation since the military coup on Feb. 1, 2021. Its previous public statement followed the March 28, 2025 earthquake, which was the first formal comment on the country since 2024.
Kyaw Moe Tun added that closed consultations at the U.N. restrict public access to discussion on the crisis in Burma since the 2021 coup. He called on the Security Council to restore its credibility by taking “timely and decisive action” against Min Aung Hlaing’s regime, urging it to include “more comprehensive and analytical assessments” in its annual reports rather than only factual summaries. Myanmar resistance delegation seeks Canada’s support
A high-level delegation representing Burma’s anti-coup resistance concluded a major cross-country diplomatic tour in Canada this weekend, seeking to solidify international support and officially introduce a newly forged political and military alliance. Led by National Unity Government (NUG) Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung, the delegation arrived in the capital, Ottawa, on Saturday.
This followed earlier stops in Toronto and Vancouver that began on May 30. The visit marks a critical step in the resistance’s strategy to counter the regime’s recent attempts to legitimize its rule on the global stage. “One of our three objectives was to engage with the Canadian government and parliament on their Myanmar policy,” Zin Mar Aung told DVB.
A primary focus of the Canadian tour was the formal introduction of the Steering Committee for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union (SCEF) to the government in Ottawa, following other high-profile visits to Washington, Tokyo, and Istanbul. AYEYARWADY—Over 70 homes in the region were destroyed by strong wind in May, according to sources close to the regime’s Department of Disaster Management. A Hinthada Township resident told DVB that 52 out of the total 70 homes destroyed by strong wind were located in the township.
A stupa at a monastery in Hinthada’s Ngapha village was destroyed, residents told DVB. All those who lost their homes were relocated to temporary shelters. Over 30 homes in the region were destroyed by wind in April. Hinthada is located 95 miles (154 km) north of the region’s capital Pathein.
BAGO—Police arrested a 68-year-old woman, identified as Kyin Soe, at her home in the region’s capital Bago Township for “sharing posts made by the NUG on social media” on Friday, regime media reported. But it didn’t report on whether she will face any specific charges for this alleged offence.
A Bago resident told DVB on the condition of anonymity that the arrest followed a comment Kyin Soe made “mocking” Khaing Khaing Soe, the new regime spokesperson, on Thursday. Nine people have been jailed and 84 people have been arrested under the regime’s Election Protection Law since July, according to DVB data.
NAYPYIDAW—Regime Minister for Home Affairs Nyunt Win Swe submitted an Anti-Online Scam Bill to the Amyotha Hluttaw, or upper house of parliament, on Wednesday. Drafted by the Central Committee for the Supervision of Online Fraud Prevention, the bill was first introduced on May 14.
It proposes the death penalty or life imprisonment for individuals who use violence, torture, or unlawful detention to victims at cyber scam operations. The bill, which consists of 12 chapters and 63 sections, aims to combat online fraud. Since 2023, over 70,000 foreign nationals arrested in connection with cyber scams have been deported.
