Myanmar’s refugee crisis explained

FROM THE DVB NEWSROOM

World Refugee Day was June 20. This news report explains Myanmar’s ongoing refugee crisis. In 2017, over 700,000 Rohingya were forced to flee from their homes in Rakhine State into Bangladesh, and now there’s close to one million refugees there from Myanmar. The U.N. states that the number of people forcefully displaced inside the country has surpassed 1.8 million. Over 100,000 have fled to India and Thailand to escape the violence, exacerbated since the 2021 military coup.
