Refugees who have fled the war in Kachin state continue to be holed up camps along Burma’s northern border, where aid supplies are low. The UN is yet to be granted permission to deliver another convoy of aid to the refugees, whom it estimates number more than 55,000, and skirmishes continue to break out in the northern state as Burmese troops take positions close to the opposition Kachin Independence Army (KIA). The feeling is that these refugees, among whom are thousands of young children, may have to stay put for the foreseeable future.
