Thousands have been forced to flee their villages in Shan State amid continued fighting between government forces and ethnic rebel groups.

Wanhai is the headquarters for the rebel Shan State Army-North. Shops and homes are now deserted there.

Government forces have sustained air strikes on the town since mid-November.
