Suu Kyi reflects on the past year

Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) held a press conference at the NLD headquarters in Rangoon, to share her assessment of the past year.

On Monday 14 November, exactly one year since her release from detention she spoke to supporters and journalists about what progress she felt had been made in that time.

She told those gathered that looking back on the last year she would describe it as “eventful, energizing and to a certain extent, encouraging.”

She spoke about the NLD’s socio-economic activities as well as the organisation’s political agenda.

She also addressed issues including political prisoners and the ethnic conflict.

Referencing her meetings with Labour Minister Aung Gyi and President Thein Sein she said they have have made some progress and they hope to cooperate more fully in the future.

On 18 November the NLD will reveal whether they plan to re register as an official political party.
