Three dead after air canister explodes in Rangoon

Two adults and one child were killed after a compressed air-canister exploded in Rangoon’s Insein township on Tuesday.

According to DVB’s reporter on the ground Soe Aung Htike, the explosion took place at a household appliances store inside Insein’s Sawbwagyigon bus terminal around 2:30pm local time.

“There was an explosion inside Sawbwargyigon compound – at Ngwe Lamin household appliances shop – caused by a compressed air-canister used to cut metal bars, etc. Two workers and a child were killed and four other people were taken to the Insein Hospital with injures,” said Aung Soe Htike.

Police officials at the scene were busy trying to identify the deceased when DVB’s reporter arrived.

The explosion did not reportedly cause a fire; however, several nearby shops were damaged by the blast.
