FROM THE DVB NEWSROOM

Two women and a nine-year-old girl were killed and another was injured in an airstrike on Mindat Township July 8. Chinland Defense Force-Mindat (CDF) Information Officer Salai Har Awm claimed that the military carried out the airstrike on civilians in Wumkhum village without any CDF fighters present. “There was no fighting in the area,” added Salai Har Awm.

All 70 families living in the village were forced to flee. Four houses were completely destroyed. Ten other homes and a school were damaged by the airstrike. Last April, an airstrike on Pazi Gyi village in Sagaing Region resulted in the death of 168 people. In October 2022, an airstrike targeted a Kachin Independence Organization (KIO/KIA) event which resulted in 60 dead.
