Traditional Myanmar performance banned by military kept alive

Myanmar’s traditional thangyat performances are critical of the military, which means they haven’t been done inside the country since the 2021 military coup. They’re performed during Thingyan, the Myanmar New Year in April. A thangyat troupe consisting of members of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), which are civil servants who refuse to work under the military regime, now based in Thailand keeps the performance alive from exile.
