VDO: Students, activists beaten as police put down Rangoon protest

A protest of around 200 students and activists was forcibly put down by police in front of Rangoon City Hall on Thursday afternoon.

They were aided by a small group of plain clothed thugs, wearing red armbands emblazoned with the word ‘duty’ in Burmese.

Over half a dozen activists were arrested, including ’88 Generation Peace and Open Society member Nilar Thein.

She spoke to DVB from the back of a police truck.
