Who are Myanmar’s Karen State Border Guard Forces?

The Karen National Army (KNA), formerly known as the Border Guard Force (BGF), controls Myawaddy Township of Karen State, located along the Thai-Myanmar border. When the Karen National Union (KNU) took control of the last remaining military outpost in Myawaddy, it took only 12 days for the KNA to switch sides from the KNU and allow the military to retake it, so the lucrative border trade with Thailand could resume.
