Army’s use of Convict Porters a War Crime

With thanks to Karen Human Rights Group for supplying some of the footage seen in this film

The Burmese army’s abusive treatment of convicts who are forced to serve as porters under dangerous front-line conditions constitutes war crimes, Human Rights Watch and the Karen Human Rights Group said in a joint report released today.

The report, titled “Dead Men Walking: Convict Porters on the Front Lines in Eastern Burma,” details abuses against convict porters that the rights groups say shows the need for a UN inquiry into the Burmese Army’s practices.
