Burma Navy included in ASEAN meeting

FROM THE DVB NEWSROOM

Whistleblower group Justice for Myanmar (JFM) called on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its partners to immediately exclude the military from all of its meetings and activities. It objected to the Commander-in-Chief of the Burma Navy Admiral Moe Aung being included in the ASEAN Navy Chiefs Meeting (ANCM) in the Philippines on May 10. The Burma Navy will take over the leadership of the ANCM in 2024. “The Burma Army’s participation in ANCM helps it procure arms and equipment, develop its arms industry and build its military capabilities which are used against the people of Burma,” said Yadanar Maung, JFM spokesperson.
