Under the mysterious direction of the former State Peace and Development Council, Burma’s capital was moved in 2005 from its historic location in Rangoon to the recently cleared jungles of Naypyidaw. The ‘home of the kings’ hosts the union’s civic institutions, but only a few cars can be seen driving along the vast boulevards.

But amid the empty spaces, civil servants and a few residents tend to the capital city as the country’s freshly minted ‘civilian’ government attends parliamentary sessions to help direct the impoverished nations’ very uncertain future.
