A performance art event called “Cease the War” was held at Chiang Mai’s Tha Phae Gate in northern Thailand on July 25, to raise awareness about and calling for an end to the ongoing Thai-Cambodia border clashes, which turned violent on July 24.
“I would like to demand calls for action from both governments…That we don’t need war and [would] like to call for a ceasefire,” said Jakkrapan Sriwichai, a performance artist in Chiang Mai.
Attendees of the performance told DVB that they would like to see the Thai-Cambodia border dispute resolved peacefully without resorting to more violence. At least 15 civilians in Thailand have been killed and over 100,000 have been displaced from their homes. The Cambodian government has not released any information regarding casualties on its side of the 500 mile (800 km) long border.
