Residents of Chiang Mai, Thailand welcomed the Chinese New Year on Jan. 28. An event hosted at Central Chiang Mai Airport featured performances, including a 40-meter LED dragon display. The Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is an annual traditional Chinese festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar and marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Each Chinese New Year is characterized by one of 12 different animals. The year of the snake begins today, Jan. 29.
