Daw Suu has third meeting with liaison minister

Nov 20, 2007 (DVB), A third meeting between detained National League for Democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and government relations minister Aung Kyi took place yesterday at a guesthouse in Rangoon.

The hour-long meeting was held at the Seinle Kantha guest house, and began at 3pm, according to a report in the state media.

No reports were released on the content of the meeting, and other NLD leaders were not informed of the topics that were discussed.

In a statement released on 8 November, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said her first meeting with Aung Kyi had been "constructive", but called for direct negotiations with the regime's leaders.

"I expect that this phase of preliminary consultations [with Aung Kyi] will conclude soon so that a meaningful and timebound dialogue with the SPDC leadership can start as early as possible," she said in the statement.

The Burmese regime rejected an offer from United Nations special envoy Ibrahim Gambari to mediate tripartite talks, and there has still been no move from the junta to hold direct meetings with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
