Jan 26, 2009 (DVB), A drunk driver who got involved in a motorbike accident in Myin Chan which killed one student and left another in a coma has pressed charges against the students' families, according to locals.

Khin Maung Win, who is the head of Tat Lan bus station and nephew of the Mandalay divisional police chief, collided with two students from the Government Technical College on 3 January.

One of the students, Khin Htoo Aung (also known as Pho Thagyar), died of his injuries, while the other, Aung Khant Maw, was admitted to hospital and has not yet regained consciousness.

A witness to the accident said Khin Maung Win and his friends fled the scene after the accident.

"The students were travelling on a motorbike when Khin Maung Win down the street from the opposite direction with two other people on his motorbike, drunk and zigzagging," the witness said.

"They collided with the kids’ motorbike head on and then fell off their bike," he said.

"After realising they had been involved in an accident, they freaked out and started making phone calls. They had left the scene by the time the police arrived."

A relative of Khine Htoo Aung said the family is now preparing to press charges against Khin Maung Win.

An official on duty at Myin Chan police station 1 said Khin Maung Win had already pressed charges against the two students for violating traffic laws.
