Han Lay, 23, is a beauty queen who was crowned Miss Grand International Myanmar 2020. She spoke out against the 2021 military coup in Burma from Thailand. Facing arrest and prosecution for her actions, Han Lay refused to return home and decided to seek asylum in Canada last September. In the first episode of DVB Athan, Han Lay discusses the harrowing ordeal she faced at Thai immigration, where she was stuck for one week, awaiting resettlement to Canada.
