Regime leader Min Aung Hlaing will conduct an official visit to Vietnam from Sept. 4-6, marking his third trip to an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member state since being inaugurated Myanmar president by a pro-military parliament on April 10.
Bilateral agenda and economic objectives
- High-Level Bilateral Talks: Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to meet with Vietnamese President Tô Lâm and Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng.
- Commercial Strategy: The regime delegation will attend the Myanmar-Vietnam Business Forum and inspect digital technology and industrial facilities in Vietnam.
- Preparatory Bilateral Framework: The visit follows an Aug. 26 trip to Naypyidaw by Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung, who co-chaired the 10th Meeting of the Myanmar–Vietnam Joint Commission with his regime counterpart Tin Maung Swe to establish new bilateral trade targets.
Since taking the oath of president on April 10, Min Aung Hlaing has executed an active foreign travel campaign aimed at projecting himself as an “elected” leader rather than the head of an illegitimate post-coup administration.
