Min Ko Naing requests treatment for eye problems

Apr 18, 2008 (DVB), Detained 88 generation student leader Min Ko Naing has been suffering from eye problems but has been denied specialist treatment by Insein prison authorities, according to his sister Ma Kyi Kyi Nyunt.

Kyi Kyi Nyunt, who visited Min Ko Naing on 8 April, said he had been feeling pain in his eyes since 25 March but had not been given proper treatment apart from a visit by a regular physician who gave him a bottle of eye drops.

"He said both of his eyes were aching and he has had to stop reading since the pain began," she said.

"He also said he had already asked the prison authorities two or three times to see an eye specialist. But they said he had to wait until the doctor shows up for his regular visit to prison once every month."
