  • On the evening of Feb 25, security forces forcibly cracked down on the residents in Tamwe Township, Yangon, while the residents  were protesting against the newly appointed ward administrator by the military-run State Administration Council, more than 30 residents have been arrested during the crackdown. The neighborhood’s road was blocked by about 20 military and police vehicles, and water cannons. 
  • Defying the military council’s threat on using the term “government of military coup”, more than 40 local media outlets in Myanmar released a joint statement  on Feb 25 that they will continue to report freely. Coup leader Snr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing warned on Feb.22 that if the media continue to use this term,  the publishing will be banned.
  • The National League for Democracy (NLD) issued on Feb.25 an announcement that the party has expelled Han Qing Zhan, its member of Chin State Executive Committee, after he accepted a position as a member of the Chin State Administrative Council formed by the military council. He became the first NLD member to accept a position appointed by the military council.
  • Myanmar is under post-coup digital curfew for the 12th consecutive night as the military imposes an internet shutdown from 1 a.m to 9 a.m local time since Feb.15, according to a report of NetBlocks, which tracks global internet usage.
  • Facebook announced on Feb 24 Wednesday night a ban on remaining Tatmadaw (military) accounts in Myanmar, as well as advertising from military-linked commercial entities on its platform. 
  • The UK announced on Feb.25 further sanctions against 6 military figures members of Myanmar’s military State Administration Council for serious human rights violations. 
  • The World Bank sent a letter issued on Feb.22 to Myanmar Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry that it has halted payments to projects in Myanmar, according to a Reuters report.
  • It is reported that police used force to crack down on anti-coup protesters in Myaynigone, Hleden, Yangon, at around 11 am today, some reporters and protesters have been arrested by the security forces.
  • About 300 locals staged a sit-in protest in front of the township court in Putao, Kachin state on Thursday demanding the release of 5 youths detained who were arrested on Feb 20 for leading the anti-coup protest, they were being held in the Putao prison and were not allowed to see their family members, said some close contacts to detainees.
  • In Magway region, seven universities announced on Feb 25 the formation of a coalition of anti-military students’ unions which include Magway University, Magway University of Medicine, Technological University, Computer University, University of Community Health, College of Education, and Industrial Science students’ unions. 
  • As of 8 PM, 25 Feb, a total of 1,314 samples were tested and found 25 more new cases and 1 death. MoHS has reported 141,841 of total confirmed cases including 131,417 discharged, and 3,198 deaths.

  • One more victim died due to the lethal crackdown by the military in the Feb 20 Mandalay shipyard protest. 26-year-old carpenter Ko Yarzar Aung from Mandalay had been shot in the upper leg since his arrest on Feb 20 during the anti-coup protest in Mandalay, and died on the evening of February 24. In the bloodshed crackdown of Mandalay Feb 20 protest, more than 70 people were injured and about 80 were arrested and, leaving 3 deaths.
  • The funeral of 30-year-old Ko Tin Htut Hein, who was shot in the head by police on Feb. 20 while guarding in Shwepyithar, Yangon, was held on Feb 24 and hundreds of people attended his funeral. Still, charges cannot have been filed concerning his death.
  • The United Nationalities Alliance (UNA), a coalition of ethnic political parties, will not attend the meeting to be held on Feb 26 in Naypyidaw with political parties hosted by the military-run Union Election Commission, said UNA member secretary U Myo Kyaw.
  • Dr. Win Myat Aye, the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement of the deposed civilian government, have been charged under section 505(a) of the Penal Code for inciting staff to take part in CDM and military-run Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) announced the arrest warrant last night.
  • Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung’s wife Dr.Yu Yu May and 4 family members were released from house arrest on Feb 24, an official from NLD confirmed.
  • According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners_AAPP’s statistics updated today (Feb 25), a total of 728 people have been arrested, charged or sentenced since Feb 1 coup, and most of  them, 666 are still under detention or have outstanding charges/evading arrest. 
  • 40 staff from Kayah State General Administration Department and 26 staff from Kayah State Hluttaw Office, in total 66 staff, joined the Civil Disobedience Movement, were temporarily suspended from their duties, according to the statements issued by officials.
  • The Japan-Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association called on the military regime to implement the 2020 general election result as soon as possible, during a hearing on Myanmar’s affairs held at the Japanese Parliament Building in Tokyo, Japan on Feb 24.
  • It is reported that a pro-military rally staged a demonstration in downtown Sule this morning, on the 25th day of military coup, committing  violent events, vandalism and attacks on people in the neighborhoods, and police force removed security barricades for Tatmadaw supporters at around 9:30 am.  
  • The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) will provide necessary legal assistance if CDM workers and anti-military regime protesters have any problems, party spokesperson U Sai Leik said.
  • The United Nations Human Rights Special procedures  released a joint statement on Feb 24 that they  have denounced the deportation of migrants to Myanmar, in defiance of court order, regarding Malaysian immigration authorities returning 1,086 migrants to Myanmar.

  • The military council has been appointed new administrators while the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Representative Committee-CRPH is planning to form ward / village or township level public administrations. Across the country, there are a lot of protests against newly appointed ward or township administrators directly appointed by the military council.
  • Film, music and literature associations issued a joint statement that objected to the charges, threatened and arbitrarily detained the group of people in the art industry, and called for the immediate release of all detainees, and the withdrawal of them in the charged list. 
  • The Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP),  the Kayan National Party (KNA) and the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) will not attend the meeting to be held on Feb 26 in Naypyidaw with political parties hosted by the military-run Union Election Commission, said officials.
  • In Magway region, locals protested in front of the police station in Minbu on Wednesday (Feb 24) demanding the release of eight youths detained.
  • A border town in Shan state, Muse, a group of gunmen in plain clothes opened fire in three places at around 5 am on Feb 24, killing two people, according to a local. 
  • As of 8 PM, 24 Feb, a total of 1,112 samples were tested, and found 33 more new cases. MoHS has reported 141,816 of total confirmed cases including 131,405

discharged, and 3,197 deaths.

  • The Karen National Union (Taungoo District) will not accept administrative mechanisms of the State Administration Council (SAC) and the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Representative Council (CRPH) but it will continue to operate in accordance with the KNU’s existing administrative mechanisms in Taungoo district, according to a statement on Feb 24.
  • The military-operated Magway Region Hluttaw Office issued an order suspending 30 staff who participated in CDM, from their duty on 23 February. According to the order, it was because those suspended members posted on social media about their activities of Red Ribbon and CDM, and not attending the offices for no reason.

  • “The military-formed union election commission(UEC) attempts to have acknowledgement of their legitimacy from the political parties,” said Sai Leik, General Secretary of Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), regarding the meeting with the political parties in Myanmar, invited by the military-formed UEC.
  • Yezin Agricultural University Teachers who are participating in CDM from three universities, Livestock and Medicine and Forestry University were charged under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code.
  • More than 20 anti-coup protesters in Magway Region have been filed under the newly imposed Criminal Code Section 505-A (c),  according to the Regional police office.
  • Despite police and security forces block all roads around Sule Pagoda in downtown Yangon this morning Feb24, the anti-military coup demonstration continues_protesters sit in front of the Shangri-La Hotel on the corner of Sule Pagoda Road and Bogyoke Road, protesting peacefully.
  • Kachin State Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Dashi La Sai has been charged under Section 505 (b), and sent to Myitkyina Prison.
  • Four people charged under Section 25 of the Disaster Management Law in Muse Township, northern Shan State, were arraigned in court through a video conference on February 23, according to Phyu Phyu Win, a lawyer representing the case.
  • Indonesia Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has canceled her plan to fly to Myanmar on Thursday, in what would be the first known by a foreign envoy since Feb 1 coup.
  • “Anyone responding to peaceful protests with violence must be held to account,” the G7 foreign ministers,  the group of 7 rich countries, said yesterday(Feb23)  in a joint statement.
  • The candlelight praying ceremonies for those who lost their lives by the military during ongoing anti-coup protests were held in some regions and states such as Sagaing, Magway and Ayeyarwady on the night of February 23. There were a total of 4 people who have been killed by the security forces so far. 
  • 14 staff from the general administration department in Pharuso, Kayah state, were temporarily suspended from their duties on Feb 22, and 5 staff from the Ayeyarwady region Hluttaw office were also suspended on Feb 23.
  • In Mandalay, thousands of locals in Kyimyindine village tract, Amarapura township, protested this morning (Feb 24) against the newly appointed ward/village administrators by the military regime. Across the country, there are a lot of protests against newly appointed  ward or township administrators appointed by the military council.
  • Myanmar’s military-appointed foreign minister U Wunna Maung Lwin visited Thailand on Wednesday for talks on diplomatic efforts by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, according to Thai government sources.

  • The National League for Democracy (NLD) will not attend a meeting hosted by the military-formed Union Election Commission, said  the NLD official  at a press conference held at the NLD office on February 23 regarding the raid of the NLD headquarters. The military-formed election commission issued on Feb 22 an invitation letter to political parties in Myanmar to hold talks for a meeting on Feb26.
  • Australia’s second-most senior military officer, Vice-Chief of the Defence Force David Johnston made a  first time phone call on Monday with Vice-Senior General Soe Win, and Vice-Chief David Johnson has urged through the phone call to restore democracy and free detained Australian academic Sean Turnell.
  • Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s State Counsellor’s Office was dissolved by the military council on Feb22. 
  • People with disabilities also took part in the protest against the military dictatorship in Momauk, Kachin State,  on 23 February.
  • Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye, Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung, Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Naing Thet Lwin, and Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win were released on the evening of Feb 23. 
  • A spokesperson for the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon met with protesters on Feb 23 in front of the embassy and claimed that Indonesia does not support holding a fresh election announced by the military. And the spokesperson denied a Reuters report on Monday (Feb 22) that Indonesia was attempting ASEAN neighbors to support the new election. Reuters also reported that the Indonesian Foreign Ministry sent another letter on the morning of Feb 23 stating that the country’s democratic transition should be in accordance with the wishes of the Myanmar people.   
  • The United States will not hesitate to take further action against those who perpetrate violence and suppress the will of the people, and condemn the security forces’ brutal attack on unarmed protesters which resulted in 4 deaths and injured over 40 individuals, according to the press release by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on Feb 23. 
  • In Khamti, Sagaing, the military has forced to close the hospital which provides free medical care to the public, local doctors said. 
  • As of 8 PM, 23 Feb, a total of 1,159 samples were tested, and found 22 more new cases. MoHS has reported 141,783 of total confirmed cases including 131,358 discharged, and 3,197 deaths.

  • In Myitkyina, Kachin state, a 5-year-old child was injured in his head after being hit with a slingshot fired from a military vehicle at around 8 pm last night while children were watching the military convoy passing by.   
  • In Monywa, on the morning of 23 February, a group of about 60  Buddhist monks gathered for a “Paritta” recitation ceremony. “Paritta”,  generally translated as protection or safeguard from any dangers, recited by Buddhism. The monks were reciting “the Maṅgala Paritta” for  good omen or auspices or good fortune and “Mora Paritta”  for protection from any dangers. 
  • The funeral of 37-year-old Thet Naing Win, who was shot dead in the violent crackdown by the security forces in Mandalay on Feb 20, was held today, attended by nearly thousands of people. His wife said that it would file the case of her husband’s death when the elected president is released.
  • The detained Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, was charged under the article 505 [b] of the Penal Code, and the case was heard through video conference on Feb 22 in Naypyitaw. 
  • The military regime  filed the  charge against the ousted Rakhine State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, and his case was heard for the first time on Feb 22  through video conference. 
  • The military-formed election commission issued on Feb 22 an invitation letter to political parties in Myanmar to hold talks for a Feb26 meeting.
  • This year from Feb 1 to Feb 12, Myanmar’s foreign trade volume was over $ 11.987 billion but the total foreign trade volume during this period last year was more than $ 14.3 billion, dropped by over $ 2.345 billion, according to regular statistics released by the Ministry of Commerce.
  • The Shan State Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) issued a statement on Feb 21 that its committee strongly condemned the military’s crackdown on the peaceful protesters and CDM workers and stated SSJAC would support the anti-coup protests and CDM movement of the people and civil servants who were exercising their civil rights and freedom of expression. It also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees involved in the peaceful protests and CDM movement.
  • The Council of the European Union adopted conclusions on Feb 22 condemning the military coup in Myanmar.
  • The United State imposed sanctions on two members of Myanmar’s military; General Maung Maung Kyaw and Lieutenant General Moe Myint Tun and threatened further actions over the military coup.
  • As of February 22, a total of 684 people have been arrested, charged, or sentenced since the February 1 coup, among them, 637 are still under detention, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners-AAPP.
