  • Military government ordered telecommunication companies to  temporarily suspend Facebook today in the early hours until February 7 midnight  because it assumes Facebook is disturbing the country’s stability, according to its order issued on Feb 3.
  • The recently-formed State Administrative Council, which includes 11 members was added expandly with 5 more members on Feb 3.
  • On Feb 3, The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD)  announced that it strongly objected to Tatmadaw’s actions that were against the peace process and the trust-building process between the ethnic groups, and called for a peaceful political settlement at the table. 
  • On Feb 2, The European Union (EU) called for an end to the military coup in Myanmar  and urged a reshuffle of civilian government.
  • The NLD Executive Committee in Mandalay region issued a statement on February 3 calling for the reopening of all sealed township-level party offices, including the NLD office of Mandalay region. The statement added that this was an illegal act and that it was considered a coercive assault on a legally formed party.
  • As of 8 PM, 3 Feb, a total of 11,196 samples were tested and found more 263 new cases and 14 deaths. MoHS has reported 140,927 of total confirmed cases including 126,384  discharged, and 3,160 deaths.
  • China hopes all parties in Myanmar can properly handle differences under the constitution and legal framework, and safeguard political and social stability, Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry said at a regular press conference in Beijing regarding a military coup in Myanmar.
  • 5 detained MPs of Mon Unity Party (MUP) at Naypyidaw government housing returned home on Feb 3, Dr.Min Kyi Win, a central executive member of the MUP, who was serving as a Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, could not be contacted so far, according to a spokesperson of MUP. 
  • Health workers from about 100 hospitals across the country have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement, according to a doctor who supports the movement.
  • Nearly 4,000 Myanmar nationals protested in front of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo against the military coup and called for the Japanese government’s support,  similar protest was held in Australia as well.
  • The highest number of celebrities in Myanmar joined the “We Want Justice” three-finger symbol campaign as a protest against the military coup.
  • The 88 Generation Student Leaders  urge the public to support the Non-Violence Movement 2021 and oppose military coups.
  • There was a protest against  the military coup in Mandalay in front of the Medical University on the morning of February 4, one protester said the military coup was unacceptable and peacefully protesting is a basic right for people.

The military coup is a firm step on the path to democracy that fits the real situation of Myanmar, remarked Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the first meeting of the Union Government at the Presidential Palace in Naypyidaw on February 2.

Myanmar National Airlines, Domestic and Overseas Relief Flights which has been suspended until the end of this month, will be resumed on February 4.

In Rakhine State, 4G internet  has been restored in all townships.

On Feb 2, the State Administrative Council recently appointed 6 Chairmen of Self-Administered Divisions or Local Administrative Committees. 

All Burma Students’ Democratic Front(ABSDF) issued a statement today condemning the military coup.

The military raided NLD offices in Myitkyina and Mandalay, according to locals.

  • The military has ordered the members of parliament at Naypyidaw’s government housing to leave within 24 hours.
  • Health workers from Yangon General Hospital, Mandalay Orthopedic Hospital, and Hkamti Hospital are conducting a Red Ribbon Campaign today against the military coup.
  • There is no need to worry about revoking  money and  regular banking services will continue as usual, according to the statement of The Central Bank Myanmar (CBM) regarding the rumors about K 5000 and K 10000 banknotes would be revoked and banks in the country would be closed.
  • Naypyidaw Deputy Mayor U Ye Min Oo and members of Naypyidaw Development Committee were dismissed from their duties, according to the statement of the State Administrative Council on Feb 3.
  • A total of 71 engineers from MYTEL, a telecommunications company, partly owned by the military, Sagaing branch in Monywa township announced that they will resign starting from today (Feb 3) as a protest of military coup.
  • The US State Department officially confirmed that the military detention of State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint was a coup and it will stop assistance to Myanmar, except humanitarian aid and aid for CSOs.
  • Myanmar Federation of Trade Unions (CTUM) announces today on its Facebook that it resigns from  government-employer-workers tripartite mechanisms, and acknowledges the results of the 2020 election and strongly condemns the Military’s seizure of power.
  • Covid-19 Contact Tracing Team, a group of more than 2,000 volunteers from 7 medical schools, has suspended its activities as a protest of military coup.

The State Administrative Council, including 11 members, chaired by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, including eight military leaders and  three civilian leaders,  was recently formed  to assume gov’t functions on February 2.

The State Administrative Council has been reshuffling top government officials: Union Ministers, Union Election Commission, the Central Bank, Police Chief , Attorney General and Auditor-General.

  • On Feb 2, the State Administrative Council recently appointed NayPyiTaw Council Chairman and 12  Chairmans of Region or State Administrative Council.
  • The State Administrative Council announced on Feb 2 that it has appointed a new chairman with  5 new members of the Union Election Commission.
  • U Than Nyein was newly appointed as chairman of the Central Bank, according to  the  announcement  of the State Administrative Council on Feb 2. 
  • The State Administrative Council announced on Feb 2 that Myanmar Police Chief Lt. Gen. Aung Win Oo retired.
  •  The Deputy Attorney General was  dismissed, according to  the  announcement  of the State Administrative Council on Feb 2. 
  • On Feb 2, the State Administrative Council recently appointed  Dr. Kan Zaw as the Auditor-General of the Union and Daw Thida Oo as the Attorney General of the Union.
  • Pado Man Nyein Maung resigned as a member of the Central Standing Committee of the Karen National Union(KNU) and joined the newly-formed State  Administrative Council.
  • On Feb 2, the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services announced a statement of Information for the people
  • The KNU Concerned Group announces that it does not accept the administration of the military and will protect itself from self-determination in Karen revolutionary territory.
  • The office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services announced on Feb 1 that the peace talks Committee of the Tatmadaw was reconstituted with 6 Lieutenant-Generals led by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.  
  • Residents in Yangon banged on iron buckets, pots and pans, and honked car horns to protest against the military coup around 8 PM on Feb 2. 
  • Myanmar medical staff in the most major cities are planning to conduct a campaign of civil disobedience against the military after Monday’s coup as they don’t want to serve a new government run by the military.
  • The Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement Signatory – Ethnic Armed Organizations 

(NCA-S EAO) condemned the military’s way of addressing the current political crisis by means of coup d’etat and demanded the immediate release of detained leaders, according to the statement of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) on Feb 2.

  • U Min Ko Naing, leader of 88 generation students, gave a video message about  calling for a No Recognition and Non-Participation strike against the military dictatorship.  
  • The UN Security Council was not able to issue a joint statement of all 15 member states concerning the Military coup in Myanmar because China and Russia  have not yet received  approval from their state officials.
  • As of 8 PM, 2 Feb, a total of 12,377 samples were tested and found more 310 new cases and 8 deaths. MoHS has reported 140,664 of total confirmed cases including 125,885  discharged, and 3,146 deaths.

Some detained Chief Ministers of State and Region including Magway, Mon, Yangon, Shan, Bago, Mandalay, Kayin (Karen), Tanintharyi and Sagaing were released and placed under house arrest.   

The National League for Democracy (NLD) has called for the immediate release of all detainees, including President Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, and the recognition of the 2020 election results.

The Covid-19 vaccination program will continue as originally planned.

Some university students’ unions and officially known local organizations in Myanmar have issued statements condemning military seizes of power and detention of the officials.

The chairman and its members of the Union Civil Service Board were dismissed from their duties according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief on Feb 1.

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief announced on Feb 1 that 11 new cabinet ministers have been appointed by  Sr. Gen. Min Aung Hlaing.

Sr. Gen. Min Aung Hlaing has appointed the original Chief Justice of the Union and the judges of the Supreme Court of the Union to carry out their duties.

The current Region or state chief justices and judges have been assigned to carry out their duties, according to a statement of the office of the Commander-in-Chief on Feb 1.

Chairman of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission; Vice-Chairman and members; has appointed its current members to carry out their duties, according to a statement of the office of the Commander-in-Chief on Feb 1.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has appointed its current members to carry out their original duties, according to a statement from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief on Feb 1.

The U.N. Security Council plans to discuss the situation in Myanmar in a closed meeting on Tuesday, according to media reports. The U.N. called for the release of all those detained, a spokesperson says.

Myanmar military seizes power in apparent coup, detaining Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other politicians including presidents U Win Myint, NLD’s parties senior members, 88 generation students activists and known activists in the early hours, and declares a one-year state of emergency. 

All the TV channels in Myanmar including DVB and State-owned TV (MRTV) have been shut down except Military-Owned Myawaddy TV.

Phone lines and some fiber internet networks had cut off nearly half of the day, now all lines and fiber internet resume. 

There is panic buying because of the unstable situations especially in the commercial city, Yangon. 

The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has announced that the election will be held in accordance with the 2008 Constitution and hand over power to the winning party.

The Media Council urges journalists to be aware of  their own safety and it is to be issued a letter urging security forces to provide protection for the journalists.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that all temporary entry restrictions on tourists from all over the world will be extended to the end of February.
