PaO armed group to hold peace talks

The PaO National Liberation Organisation is set to hold another round of talks with top government negotiator Railway minister Aung Min in mid-May.

Khun Myint Htun, general secretary of the PNLO, said the group had reached an agreement with the minister during a phone conversation on Sunday and the two sides would meet next month.

“We previously met with U Aung Min’s group on February 5 and agreed to meet again… he suggested that we meet again in the middle of May,” said Khun Myint Htun.

The PNLO first met with Aung Min on 27 December last year and again on 5 February. During the negotiations, the group presented an 11-point proposal, which included the implementation of a nationwide ceasefire, holding political talks with the United Nationalities Federal Council within 60 days of reaching the nationwide ceasefire and opening an all-inclusive political dialogue.

The general secretary said the group would focus on discussing the ceasefire during the upcoming meeting.
